MACKAY REEF AND FISH HABITATS

AS SEEN ON

Mackay reef and fish habitats

New homes, more fish.

THE CHALLENGE

Mackay’s coast has suffered from habitat loss, overfishing, and reef damage. The Pioneer River lacked structure for fish near fishing spots. Offshore rubble zones couldn’t support reef life. Both areas needed restoration.

OUR SOLUTION

SeaO2 deployed 75 concrete reef units in two key locations.
45 went into the Pioneer River to boost fishing and biodiversity.
30 were placed offshore with Reef Catchments to mimic reef habitats.

All units were designed for local conditions by Catchment Solutions..

RESULTS SO FAR

Early signs show more fish and better fishing in the river. Offshore, reefs are attracting fish and coral.

The project helps both nature and the local community.
